MYSORE STYLE ASHTANGA IN PARIS
Practice Ashtanga Yoga the traditional way, in the heart of Paris. Mysore Style is the original method of transmission, where each student moves at their own pace, individually guided by an authorized teacher. No group rhythm to follow, no level required to begin.
What is Mysore Style ?
Mysore Style takes its name from the city of Mysore in southern India, where Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught Ashtanga Yoga for over 60 years. In this format, students practice their own series simultaneously in the same room, each at their own pace. The teacher moves through the room, offering individual adjustments, precise corrections, and teaching new postures when the student is ready.
This is how yoga has always been transmitted in India: from teacher to student, directly and personally. It is the most respectful and effective format for building a lasting practice.
Who is Mysore Style for ?
Mysore Style is for everyone, regardless of level or age. Complete beginners are welcome and will start from the very beginning, learning the Sun Salutations and the first standing postures step by step. Experienced practitioners will deepen their existing series with precise individual guidance. People with physical limitations will receive an adapted practice that respects their body.
You do not need to know the Ashtanga series to begin. The practice is built gradually, posture by posture, at your own rhythm.
The benefits of a regular Mysore Style practice
A regular Mysore Style practice develops physical strength and deep flexibility, improves breathing capacity and body awareness, calms the nervous system and reduces chronic stress, builds genuine concentration and a meditative quality of attention, and creates a sustainable long-term practice that grows with you year after year.
Unlike fitness-oriented yoga formats, Mysore Style is not about performance. It is about transformation.
The teachers
Mysore Style Paris is guided by two complementary teachers :
Cyril Lagel : Tuesday & Friday
Authorized KPJAYI/SYC Teacher, teaches on Tuesdays and Fridays. He has practiced Ashtanga Yoga since 2009 and has made multiple trips to Mysore to study directly with R. Sharath Jois. He is the co-author of the book Mieux Comprendre l'Ashtanga Yoga, the first comprehensive guide to Ashtanga Yoga written in French.
Tran Bui, Authorized SYC Teacher, teaches on Thursdays. Both teachers were authorized directly by the Jois family in Mysore, guaranteeing a transmission faithful to the original tradition.

Our paths to practice have been very different, and this is precisely what makes this shared teaching so enriching.
Cyril offers a committed, structured, and powerful approach. His teaching is direct, present, and confident. Adjustments are deliberate, supportive, and designed to accompany clear and lasting progress.
Tran brings a different quality: more flexible, agile, and calm. His eye is meticulous, precise, attentive to the subtle details of movement and to the body's refined listening.
Our adjustment methods reflect this complementarity: one offers hands-on adjustments that are present and assertive, while the other brings delicate precision and finesse to the guidance.
Over time, this complementarity has helped us grow as practitioners and teachers. Today, it allows students to benefit from two sensibilities, two perspectives, two energies, united by a single vision: to transmit Ashtanga Yoga with rigor, kindness, and joy.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know the Ashtanga series before coming to a Mysore Style class ?
No. In Mysore Style, you learn the series directly with the teacher, posture by posture, from your very first session. This is exactly what this format is designed for.
Is Mysore Style suitable for beginners with no yoga experience ?
Yes, completely. Many practitioners start Ashtanga Yoga through Mysore Style with no prior yoga experience. The individual guidance makes it the safest and most effective format to begin.
How often should I practice Mysore Style to progress ?
Three sessions per week is an excellent starting point. Consistency over time matters more than intensity. The body and mind adapt progressively to the practice.
What is the difference between a KPJAYI/SYC authorization and a standard yoga teacher certification ?
A KPJAYI/SYC authorization is given directly by R. Sharath Jois in Mysore to practitioners who have demonstrated deep study of the method over years of practice. It is not a course-based certificate. It is a personal recognition of transmission fidelity within the direct lineage of Pattabhi Jois.
Can I practice Mysore Style if I have an injury or physical limitation ?
Yes, with medical clearance and a qualified teacher who can adapt the practice. Mysore Style is one of the most adaptable formats in yoga precisely because it is individualized.
